When your body is so nice that you needn’t ever anxiety about what you are wearing (or not wearing, as the case may be), fashion can often seem beside the point. I mean, why even bother with movement when a simple tee and Levi’s can melt hearts for miles? Such is the difficult situation that Emily Ratajkowski—that Bernie Sanders–loving, selfie-taking, supermodel/actress /Instagram star—must confront every day when she looks in her Los Angeles closet to retrieve a cropped sweatshirt or some boyfriend jeans. Being shockingly hot is not unaccompanied by issues.
And yet on a new trip to Paris for Fashion Week, Ratajkowski found herself in the unique location of modeling the best of the Fall
2017 collections. And what a season! There was magical slyness from Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, cunning archival know-how from Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga, reeking denim from Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent, and a rocket launch (with mega-groovy boots) from Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. There were a tendency to be tried (feathers! tailoring!embroidery!) and remarkable points of view (Dries Van Noten, Chitose Abe for Sacai) to be sampled. Ratajkowski worked them all—best body, greatest clothes—and made some Parisian pals along the way. She wore the Sanders pump since Balenciaga and went off into the night in chain mail from Paco Rabanne. How chilly is that? This is her diary.
